Education is the bridge between the riches of our past and the dreams of our future! Can you think of a single issue facing our society for which education isn't at least part of the solution?
I'm passionate about learning and teaching. School hasn't been easy for me--my reading is painfully slow and my writing is slower--but I've always been extremely curious and an eager learner. In my late forties, I decided to pursue a new career in higher education. The first step was to complete my Bachelor's degree. (I dropped out of school at the University of Minnesota when Sak Theatre was hired to perform at EPCOT Center.)
I completed my degree at California State University in Northridge in 2006 after two years of full-time studying. When I first returned to school I assumed it would be many years before I would have the opportunity to teach. Surprisingly, I was invited by two of my favorite professors to assist in six of their classes. I coached students in their writing and study skills, led class discussions, and even lectured. I also had the privilege of co-founding a student organization for the advancement of religious studies and inter-faith dialog.
As I look back over my career I can see that I was always drawn to teaching. In my six years with Sak at Walt Disney World, one of my favorite activities was teaching improvisation skills to teachers as part of the Disney University program. Later when Walt Disney Imagineering recruited me, I enjoyed many opportunities to create and conduct training programs for other Imagineers and WDC employees.
These experiences proved so satisfying that with my long-time friend and co-worker, C. McNair Wilson, I started a company to provide training and creative services to other companies and organizations. We called it Imaginuity Unlimited. Today McNair is still much in demand conducting programs around the US. See more about Imaginuity and C. McNair Wilson in the section on CREATIVITY.
Meanwhile, I'm now preparing to enter a PhD program here on the East Coast. My plan is to study American Religious History. Eventually I plan to teach in a university or divinity school.
I'm quite fond of two other kinds of education from which I have benefited greatly: the entrepreneurial mentor-ship available in the field of NETWORKING and the extraordinary education in TRANSFORMATION available from Landmark Education. If you care about people, find out about both of these. Each possesses the power to be life-altering.
